Dutch company Offshore Wind Services (OWS), a specialist on offshore windfarm personnel logistics has ordered a fast crew transfer vessel from Damen Shipyards.
The FCS 2008 class machine is the company’s second vessel ordered from the yard this year. It will be named Offshore Waddenzee.
The order was signed after successful sea trials that took place in the Dutch North Sea at the Princess Amalia windfarm. The FCS 2008 has a Sea Axe hull that reduces slamming and therefore helps with the comfort of those aboard.
Damen has been particularly successful with its Sea Axe and Twin Axe workboat designs in the North Sea, both for offshore renewables and, in the Dutch sector at least, gas production platform support.
