Aberdeenshire energy services firm 3sun Group has won a £1million marine operations and management contract with Statoil.
The six month deal, based in the Outer Harbour of East Port, Great Yarmouth, will be the company’s first major project for the marine sector.
The contract covers the assembly of anodes onto specialist frames designed to transport assemblies offshore.
The anodes will be then deployed to the seabed around each of the 88 wind turbine foundations on the Sheringham Shoal wind farm, 21kilometres off the North Norfolk coast.
“The scope of work and the contract value signifies the extent of our technical abilities and further underpins our reputation for delivering a high quality service and execution,” said Stuart Brand, 3sun Group’s operations director.
“We are delighted to establish a working relationship with Statoil through this project and we look forward to continuing to support the company in the future as it grows its operations within the UK and Europe within the energy sector.
“3sun Group is constantly evolving its capabilities and client offering by combining our collective knowledge and expertise to form expert teams. This project confirms our ability to support operations in the marine sector, which complements our full service offering.”
The company will work alongside oilfield support services firm Asco who will provide quayside support on the project.
“The project marks the first milestone in what is planned to be a larger relationship between the two companies, with plans in place to develop a regional operations and maintenance hub from ASCO’s Gas House Quay facility,” said Graham Hacon, 3sun Group’s chief executive.
The deal adds to the company’s renewables portfolio, following a recent contract extension with Siemens to provide offshore wind turbine installation services in the UK until 2016.
The group’s previous work for Siemens totalled around £15million.
