Scottish power firm Aggreko is set to power up the 2014 Ryder Cup.
The work scope includes the provision of 17MW of power and back-up support on location at Gleneagles, as well as air-conditioning for the tented village, hospitality units, media centre and other temporary infrastructure at the event.
Around 40 temporary structures will be powered and cooled using Aggreko’s “super-silent” TwinPack generators, set to minimise sound emissions from power production in and around the golf course.
The company is also due to provide technical power supplies to international broadcasters transmitting from the event. Around 600 distribution boards will be utilised by the firm to connect and feed power supplies around the course.
“Aggreko has vast experience of providing temporary power and temperature control solutions at golf tournaments,” said Angus Cockburn, interim chief executive of Aggreko.
“Doing so at The 2014 Ryder Cup, which is on our doorstep and is perhaps higher profile than any previous tournament, is a great privilege.”
Aggreko has previously provided similar services to nine Olympic and Paralympic Games, five FIFA World Cups, four previous Ryder Cups in Europe and The XX Commonwealth Games.
