Survival training specialist Survivex has piloted a new training course for the updated emergency breathing system (EBS) for the offshore workforce.
The Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) Initial Deployment Training is the first Opito-approved programme to be conducted for the new EBS.
The 90-minute course supports the introduction of an updated lifejacket and the new Category A EBS which can now be deployed when under water or capsized.
The Civil Aviation Authority report, following tragic helicopter ditchings into the North Sea, requires all personnel positioned in the aisle seat of any helicopter to undertake the new training by September 1 this year.
The training will become a mandatory requirement for all offshore workers by January 1, 2015.
“Signalling the continuous improvement of safety standards in the industry, the newly launched equipment will be integral to offshore survival,” said Andrew Green, Survivex chief executive.
“Survivex’s proactive approach to organising and implementing the first training course displays our clear commitment not only to the industry but to the offshore crews working in one of the world’s most challenging regions.”
