Intecsea UK, part of Australian energy service giant WorleyParsons, has secured one of the key contracts for Maersk Oil’s Culzean gas development in the UK North Sea.
Denmark-based Maersk said yesterday it had appointed Intecsea to carry out subsea front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for the £3billion project.
The exact value of the deal was undisclosed, but a spokeswoman for Maersk said it was in seven figures.
It comes just a few weeks after Maersk awarded Denmark’s Ramboll Oil and Gas a multimillion-pound contract for the design of a wellhead jacket and related equipment for Culzean, one of the most promising high-pressure/high-temperature discoveries in UK waters in recent years.
US energy service company KBR was awarded the FEED contract for Culzean’s three-platform standalone facility, while UK firm Hercules British Offshore will provide a new, heavy duty jack-up drilling rig.
First gas from the central North Sea field is expected in 2019.
Forecast plateau gas production is in a range of 400million-500million standard cubic feet per day.
Maersk is the operator, with a 49.99% stake, alongside JX Nippon (34.01%) and BP (16%).
