Two subsea companies are upping their presence in the north-east with the creation of two new headquarters in Aberdeenshire’s Westhill area.
The area, also known as the subsea capital of Europe, will see subsea specialist Rovop invest £4million in new purpose built headquarters, while subsea robotic company Aleron Subsea is relocating its head office from Singapore to the area.
Rovop, which is already based in Westhill, will build a new purpose built head office at Silvertrees Business Park incorporating training facilities, a full Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) underwater test facility and an internal 40tonne overhead crane.
The firm’s managing director Steven Gray said: “Establishing our own HQ is the next step in Rovop’s evolution and enables us to build upon our specialist services in one hub, which is a major development from working across three sites.
“The addition of the test tank will also allow us to carry out maintenance or fit sensors and tooling and then wet test our ROVs on site ahead of their deployment offshore, as well as use them for demonstration and training purposes.”
Aleron Subsea, which specialises in ROV upgrades and renting work class ROVs to clients, said the move to Westhill would accommodate continued business growth.
Managing director Mike Bisset said: “Aleron Subsea has had an extremely strong time throughout 2014, securing a number of new contracts globally, including a large contract with a client in Indonesia which will continue well into 2015.
“It was essential for us to relocate our headquarters from Singapore to Scotland to ensure that we can cope with demand and be closer to our clients, particularly in Europe and West Africa, whilst still offering a high class service at all times.”
He said the firm, which currently employs 20 people, was likely to grow its workforce and asset base to cope with demands from clients.
