A recruitment campaign has been launched by the recently appointed chief executive of the OGA (Oil and Gas Authority) to attract a number of high-calibre leaders to senior level roles with the North Sea regulator.
Andy Samuel recently confirmed the appointment of the first three members of his leadership earlier this month.
Now the search is continuing for the three remaining executive level directors, as well as four further senior leaders, who will be influential in delivering the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) maximising economic recovery strategy.
Mr Samuel, said: “The recent decline in the global oil price has magnified the challenges facing the UK oil and gas industry.
“Working closely with Industry and Government, the OGA has a central role to play in creating a positive future for this critical UK industry.
“The successful candidates for these exciting roles will have a unique opportunity to develop and implement new oil and gas strategies for the UK.
“They will use their industry expertise and exceptional leadership qualities to create a high-performance culture based on collaboration and efficiency.
“They will demonstrate the drive, commitment and resilience to move with pace, manage ambiguity and deliver results.”
The director, offshore exploration and production will be responsible for the effective stewardship of oil and gas exploration and production on the UKCS.
To support this, the OGA will appoint three senior managers to lead targeted regional development strategies in the Northern North Sea and West of Shetland, Central North Sea, and Southern North Sea and Morcambe Bay.
They will work alongside an exploration and new ventures manager, who will work with Industry and Government to drive exploration activity.
The director, technology and projects will lead the development and delivery of OGA’s technology and decommissioning strategies, as well as leading the OGA’s relationships with, and focus on, the wider supply chain industry.
The director, policy performance and economics will be responsible for leading the Maximising Economic Recovery Strategy, working with Industry and the Treasury to drive improved industry performance, develop excellent relationships with the UK and Scottish Governments and manage the OGA’s external affairs
A wide-spread advertising campaign and parallel executive search is now underway to encourage applicants to apply for these important new roles, as the OGA prepares to become an Executive Agency of the Department of Energy and Climate Change on 1 April 2015.
Successful candidates are likely to be senior leaders already working in the industry who have considerable experience of the range of issues identified in Sir Ian Wood’s report.
Earlier this month, Mr Samuel announced the first three recruits to his team.
Simon Toole, currently head of offshore licensing, exploration and development in the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) will become director of licensing and legal.
Mr Toole will lead the OGA’s onshore exploration and production activity, industry-wide licensing and disputed resolution.
Stuart Payne has been appointed as director of change and organisational development, and will lead the design and ongoing development of the OGA organisation with responsibility for managing human resources.
The third appointment is Ian Mackenzie as chief implementation officer.
Mr Mackenzie will lead the finance, procurement, internal audit and IT activities that will establish the OGA as an arms-length organisation.
