Petrobas has halted production from four oil platforms off the coast of Brazil after a leak of about 7,000 litres of oil.
The leak, which was believed to be coming from a pipeline linking them, was confirmed by the country’s oil regulator ANP.
The incident occurred in the Camorim field, 16 kilometres off the coast of the city of Aracaju.
Petrobas said although nearly all of the oil had been contained, the company expected some small particles to reach shore.
The four platforms that halted output are PCM-5, PCM-6, PCM-8 and PCM-9.
Collectively, the platforms produce 400 barrels of oil and 60,000 cubic meters of natural gas a day.
Petrobas said it may now open an investigation into the incident and will continue to monitor the situation.
