Ireland’s top energy company, ESB, has struck a deal with a developer to bring another nine onshore windfarms to the UK.
The nine projects being developed by Dublin’s ESB and Berkshire-based Coriolis Energy will have a capacity of 400megawatts, enough to power 225,000 homes.
Most of the projects will be based built in Scotland, ESB said yesterday. The first of the nine farms is slated to go online in 2019.
Liam Murphy, project manager of the partnership, was quoted as saying ESB will supply most of the £600million of required funding.
He said ESB would continue investing in onshore wind despite the Conservative Party’s earlier vow to cut subsidies for the sector if it wins next week’s general election.
