Trade body Energy North has named Stuart Deed as its new chief executive.
Having worked with many of the industry’s leading names, including ExxonMobil and SSE, Mr Deed brings more than 25 years’ experience to the post.
Most recently he has been operating as a consultant, supporting young and evolving businesses to navigate the sector.
He also sits on a number of boards, including the Scottish Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association and the Perth and Kinross Green Technology Business Accelerator.
Mr Deed, who hails from Perth said: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to take on this exciting and challenging new role.
“I am very ambitious for the organisation, our members, stakeholders and the communities we represent, and I’m looking forward to working as part of the Energy North team and building on the strong foundations established over recent years.”
Energy north chairman Sidney Johnston said: “Stuart was appointed following a rigorous selection process through which he showed real passion for Energy North and its members, staff and stakeholders.
“We’re very pleased to have someone of his calibre on board as he will play a leading role in driving Energy North forward.
“Businesses in the north of Scotland have tremendous potential and an enormous amount to gain from the energy sector. Under Stuart’s leadership, Energy North will continue to work hard to maximise this potential for the benefit of members as well as the communities we serve.”
Energy North is a not-for-profit trade group of more than 220 members in the oil and gas, renewable-energy and nuclear markets.
Its area of operation covers Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Orkney, Shetland, Caithness, Sutherland, Skye, Lochalsh, Ross-shire, Lochaber, Inverness, Moray, Argyll, and the Outer Hebrides.
Mr Deed takes over as chief executive from Ian Couper, who said late last year that he was stepping down after eight years at the helm.
