A number of business leaders will gather in Aberdeen today to discuss the challenges and importance of maintaining a healthy workforce in the current economic climate.
A round table event is being held by RGU:Wellness, a unique occupational health service for workplace absence management, to address the increasing challenge of ensuring that employee health and wellbeing remains a strategic priority.
The event, which is being organised in partnership with commercial law firm, Burness Paull, will feature Dr Alistair Fraser, Vice President, Health, Royal Dutch Shell and an honorary graduate of Robert Gordon University (RGU). As keynote speaker, Dr Fraser will highlight how improving resilience in the workforce drives business performance.
The first in a series of thought leadership discussions led by RGU:Wellness, the event entitled ‘Sustaining Resilience and Wellbeing in Times of Change’ will provide delegates with an opportunity to discuss the current challenges in maintaining a healthy workforce faced by human resources, operations and senior management across all sectors in the north-east.
Val Maehle, Director of RGU:Wellness and Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Care at RGU, says: “Ensuring that health and wellbeing remains a strategic priority within organisations is becoming an increasing challenge, particularly when the economic environment indicates a need for cost cutting, efficiencies and downsizing.
“Investing time, money and effort into employee wellbeing can lead to significant savings through absence reduction, with fewer accidents and injuries leading to more resilient and efficient teams.
“By bringing together a select group of peers we hope to stimulate forward thinking discussion and debate around the most effect ways of convincing key decision makers about the benefits of a healthy and resilient workforce, ensuring this is maintained as a strategic priority for a successful business.”
The event is by invitation only and is taking place on Thursday, 25 June at RGU’s Garthdee campus.
