Monitoring specialist Permasense has opened a new Aberdeen office, despite the recent market downturn.
The firm, which specialises in operating efficiency, credited mounting sector pressures to reduce costs for the move.
Permasense chief executive Dr Peter Collins said: “The challenging industry environment is encouraging operators to look for innovative solutions that have a genuine impact on project economics and offer quick return on investment.”
The company’s move follows the recent launch of its ET210, which provides real-time monitoring of corrosion and erosion of upstream oil and gas assets.
Dr Collins added: “Aberdeen remains a strategic hub for many of the world’s leading operators, so it makes sense for Permasense to have a dedicated presence in this key location.”
Heading up the new office is 15-year industry veteran Iain Fullerton, who has been appointed as upstream business manager. In the role, Fullerton will be responsible for leading a sales team to take Permasense’s monitoring systems to the region’s operators.
Mr Fullerton said: “As crude remains around $60 per barrel, the pressure to reduce operating costs has never been greater. The North Sea in particular, is looking for new ways to optimise operations while managing operational risk.”
