A £15million investment at Montrose harbour will help it compete for lucrative offshore oil and gas decommissioning work in years to come, according to the port’s operator.
Montrose Port Authority will spell out its capabilities as a decommissioning centre for offshore oil and gas structures at next month’s SPE Offshore Europe exhibition in Aberdeen.
The Scottish east coast port, around 40-miles south of Aberdeen, has seen major upgrades to quays on both the north and south sides of the harbour and the creation of three heavy lift pads with a capacity of 15 tonnes per square metre since 2012. Montrose was one of the first to develop a special oil support base to cater for the needs of the offshore industry
Over the next 12 months the port authority will undertake a master planning process that will allow further development of additional deep water berths and even more heavy lift pads.
Chief executive Nik Scott-Gray, said: “We believe this investment in our infrastructure will attract interest from companies involved in offshore decommissioning and we are looking to promote these capabilities at SPE Offshore Europe.”
MPA will be exhibiting as part of the Scottish Development International Pavilion on at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre from September 8-11 September.
