Glacier Energy Services said yesterday it had launched a new specialist services division and appointed Martin Kilrummy, previously of Petrofac Facilities Management (PFM), to run it.
The group, whose other businesses include precision pipe-cutting equipment and onsite services provider Roberts Machining Solutions and weld overlay specialist Wellclad, set up the unit to target opportunities in onshore exploration and production (E&P) and infrastructure and facilities management markets.
Glacier’s existing onsite machining operations and heat transfer equipment manufacturing and refurbishment firms Ross Offshore and MSL now form part of the new division, which is also – through another subsidiary – offering non-destructive testing.
Mr Kilmurry will lead the integration of these activities into one business, which Glacier said gave customers a bundled service option using multi-skilled technicians to deliver cost savings and other efficiencies.
“Glacier has tremendous potential for further growth, Mr Kilmurry said, adding: “These are critical considerations as the energy sector looks to secure its long-term future despite the challenges of a reduced oil price.
“The group has taken huge strides into the market, developing its core specialist service and bringing together recognised names in the delivery of vital services for energy infrastructure, including non-destructive testing, to complement its industry-leading offering in onsite machining and heat exchanger capability.”
He added: “Glacier’s specialist services division delivers workscopes not only for operators and dutyholders in upstream E&P but also the downstream petrochemical and facilities management sectors – minimising production impacts and significantly reducing the cost of critical infrastructure work.”
Mr Kilmurry was UK business improvement director for Petrofac Facilities Management PFM.
He has more than 30 years’ experience in industry, including automotive manufacturing in the US and oil and gas projects in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Glacier chairman Scott Martin said: “This is a significant appointment for the group as we work to expand our work with operators and oilfield service companies, delivering key services which will help secure the future productivity and profitability of vital assets on and offshore.”
The group employs 230 people across sites in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Dalgety Bay and Newcastle, as well as bases in Singapore and the Middle East.
Meanwhile, Aberdeen-based offshore equipment supplier First Integrated Solutions has parted company with managing director Fraser Coull.
Mr Coull has been replaced by Steve Mearns, who had joined the company in 2013 as finance director and has extensive managerial experience in the international energy industry.
