Aberdeen-based engineering services firm Aiken Group’s turnover more than doubled to £26.1 million in the past year and it has celebrated the achievement with a new product launch at Offshore Europe.
For the 12 months to May 31, revenue grew by 110% – the highest figure ever recorded since the company was founded in 1987.
Scottish energy minister Fergus Ewing unveiled the company’s latest modular product – Room In a Box – created to give offshore workers greater comfort and safety.
An automated upper bunk bed enables stewards to lower the bed and change linen and mattresses without the need to work at height, reducing the risk of injury.
The bed can remain in the lower position for rig crew on back-to-back shifts, negating the need for bunk ladders.
LED lighting and “hotel-style” bed head units with HDMI and USB connectivity have also been included.
Aiken Group Managing Director Danny Donald said: “In spite of challenging conditions, we are pleased to report this milestone turnover achievement.
“Room In a Box marks the beginning of the next chapter in Aiken Group’s evolution by taking industry ‘norms’ and challenging them by pushing boundaries to create a superior living space, which is both harmonious with its environment and user friendly for those working in adverse conditions.”
Room In a Box was supported with innovation funding from Scottish Enterprise which has been working closely with the company over the last three years through its account management programme.
