Bilfinger today confirmed a £65million North Sea contract win has helped safeguard jobs at its UK base, as its Norwegian workforce faces a fresh round of cutbacks.
The firm won a five year maintenance, modification and operations contract in the UKCS, which will employ more than 100 people.
The contract will see 30 personnel transfer to Bilfinger Salamis UK from the incumbent contractor.
Since the oil price drop, the parent company has been forced to decreased its headcount by 500 permanent posts.
A company spokesman for Bilfinger UK said: “We have a special situation in Norway because of the conclusion of a number of projects and the continuing challenges in the global oil and gas market.
“While the UK offshore market has similar cost challenges, Bilfinger continues to be successful in retaining and securing new contracts by providing solutions to these market challenges. The recent contract awards, like the one announced today, are testament to this. They are able to be staffed by existing employees and transferees which safeguards jobs.”
