ExxonMobil has been fined $2.63million for spilling crude oil in an Arkansas residential area two years ago.
The company was hit with the cash penalty by the US pipeline safety office, the regulator said yesterday.
In 2013 the Illinois-to-Texas Pegasus pipeline spilled about 3,190 barrels of oil in a neighbourhood near the town of Mayflower.
Regulators had initially estimated the spill was about 5,000 barrels.
The case will be finalised when the civil penalty is paid and terms of compliance order are completed.
ExxonMobil said in a statement it had received the letter and was evaluating its options.
Earlier this week the company said it was selling off some of its refinery assets in California.
