Andes Energia has welcomed the appointment of Mauricio Macri as Argentina’s new president.
A company spokesperson said: “The board is confident Mauricio Macri’s pro-business policies and administration will benefit the Argentinian oil and gas industry, and will attract foreign capital into the country and therefore into Argentina’s important Vaca Muerta shale deposit, where Wood Mackenzie is expecting a doubling of production by 2018 and where Andes Energia has 250,000 net acres.”
Macri ran a campaign promising to change Argentina. He said the country lacked accessible, accurate information about the state of its economy.
He said: “Currency controls are a mistake, not providing information and statistics and not having an independent central bank are things we’re going to correct.”
He beat the outgoing president’s favourite, Daniel Scioli, in a hotly contested run-off.
