An offshore oil platform has caught fire and had to be evacuated.
A search and rescue operation is ongoing but it is believed over 80 people were trapped in the blaze on the platform in Azerbaijan’s sector of the Caspian Sea.
Azeri independent TV ANS reports that 42 workers have been rescued from the blaze.
Azeri state energy company SOCAR said that the fire started after a gas pipeline on the platform was damaged in heavy wind.
It said the rescue attempt was being complicated by a heavy storm.
Two firefighting boats have been sent to the scene mobilised and a diving vessel is also involved in the rescue operation.
SOCAR also confirmed that workers were missing after an accident at another offshore oil platform during the storm.
