Expro chief executive Charles Woodburn is reportedly about to be unveiled as the new chief operating officer and potentially the next CEO at defence giant BAE Systems.
Mr Woodburn, 44, has led international oilfield services firm Expro, based in Aberdeen and Reading, since September 2010.
He joined the group following a 15-year career with Schlumberger, where he held many senior management roles and latterly was in charge of engineering and manufacturing.
It is thought he will this week be named as the preferred choice for BAE in its search for a successor to chief executive Ian King, who is due to retire in 12-18 months.
Mr Woodburn is expected to follow the path that was taken by Mr King before he landed the top job in 2008 following a spell as chief operating officer.
BAE – the world’s third largest defence group by sales – is expected to announcement the appointment of Mr Woodburn, including details of his pay package, this week.
Expro, which employs more than 4,500 people in 50 countries and operates in all the major hydrocarbon producing areas of the world, had no-one available for comment yesterday.
Mr Woodburn is part of an Expro executive management team which also includes chief operating officer Michael Jardon, chief financial officer Jean Vernet, group general counsel John McAlister, vice-president Alistair Geddes and testing and production president Gary Belcher.
