Oil major Shell and Inpex are expected to reduce the number of workers they have employed on the proposed Abadi liquefied natural gas project.
The move has been made in response to the Indonesian Government’s approving of a revised field development plan.
Shell has told regulators SKK Migas that it has asked some employees working on the project from bases in the Netherlands, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Staff will switch to other projects in Shell’s portfolio following the decision.
Shell said it remains “committed to developing the Abadi gas field” and to use FLNG technology” as the company believes it is the best option for Indonesia and Indonesians.
A spokesman added:“We hope the Government of Indonesia will reach a decision soon and support our revised plan of development.
“In the meantime, we are working with Inpex to review resourcing requirements pending approval of the revised plan of development, to ensure that preliminary work on the project continues and we can then move as quickly as possible once the approval is granted.”
