Norway’s GC Rieber Shipping, through its subsidiary Polar Explorer, has entered into a time charter agreement with cable company Nexans for the CSV Polar King for a fixed period of about eight-and-a-half months.
The charter will commence in January 2017 and contains options for up to 16 months additional work. The vessel will conduct survey, trenching and cable laying activities in Norway, the North Sea and the Mediterranean.
Nexans supplies of power, telecommunications, installations and heating cables in Norway, and manufactures offshore control cables and high-voltage submarine cables.
GC Rieber chief executive Irene Waage Basili, said: “This is an interesting contract for us with a new customer in a non-oil related segment characterised by high activity and a strong project pipeline.”
