Norwegian operator Statoil has held a naming ceremony for the Mariner B in South Korea.
The Floating Storage Unit (FSU) will be used on the company’s flagship Mariner field on the UKCS.
The journey from South Korea to Scotland will begin this summer when the unit will leave its yard to begin the 72-day journey to Scotland.
Minna Bernt, the wife of Statoil’s project director for the Mariner facilities acted as the ship sponsor and conducted the formal naming ceremony.
The construction of the Mariner B started at Samsung’s Geoje yard almost two years ago.
The unit has been designed following maritime industry best practice, with a higher specification than ordinary commercial vessels to allow it to remain offshore for the lifetime of the field without docking.
The total storage capacity is 855,000 barrels, of which around 150,000 barrels is reserves for diluent which will be used in the Mariner production process.
Statoil said during the plateau production period on Mariner, there will be a shuttle tanker on the field to offload crude two to three times per month.
