NASA’s Earth Observatory has captured images from high above the Eagle Ford shale formation in the US.
The pictures show how the state of Texas has evolved with the bright lights from the wells and equipment in the shale play.
The Eagle Ford produces both oil and natural gas. Oil wells are on the northern end of the site, while there are also natural gas wells to the south.
The below image was taken in 2015, it shows a snap taken by NASA’s Landsat 8 satellite in 2015, with the shale drilling infrastructure visible from space.
In 2009, there was 67 producing wells and by 2013, there were more than 2,400.
