Staff at Marathon Oil in Houston have been forced to stay at home after flash floods hit the city.
The company issued a notice to its employees to stay at home as 10 inches of rainfall in just six hours hit the region today.
Houston’s Bush International Airport has also banked 8.85inches of rainfall, reporting more than 8 inches in the early hours of this morning.
All departing and arriving flights have also been cancelled.
The city’s Mayor Sylvester Turner also closed all city buildings and canceled the State of the City address that had been scheduled for today.
He said:”This is a dangerous situation and I do not want our employees trying to get to work,” Turner said. “Do not go out until conditions improve.” Houston Independent School District was also closed Monday, according to the district.
