Venezuela has introduced a two day week for public sector workers in a bid to prevent an energy crisis.
The country, which has been hit hard by the continued decline in oil price, is facing a major drought which has reduced water levels at its main hydroelectric dam.
The measures were announced by vice president Aristobulo Isturiz who said workers should only turn up for work on a Monday and Tuesday until the crisis was over.
The changes will affect two million pubic sector workers.
It comes after President Nicolas Maduro gave most of Venezuela’s 2.8million employees Fridays off during April and May in a bid to reduce electricity consumption.
Last week, the government had also said it would consider putting the clocks forward by half an hour to reduce demand for electricity in the early evening.
The power shortages have deepened the country’s serious economic crisis.
Many businessmen and opposition politicians blame the energy crisis and shortages of basic goods on government economic mismanagement.
