A vessel used in the oil and gas industry is to be turned into a cruise as the company behind the move looks for new markets amid the global downturn.
Norwegian company Edda Accommodation has created Edda Adventures which will offer trips on one of its flotels for up to 500 passengers.
The firm said it would continue to use the ship for the offshore industry but was also looking to capitalise on opportunities within other sectors.
It said the vessel would be used for trips in between other projects.
The trips are expected to begin in July with visitors being taken around some of the largest oil platforms in the region including Johan Sverdrup, which is currently under development, and Balder, Oseberg, Troll A, Troll C and Gjoa A.
Chief executive Johan Rokstad said the vessel was “one of the worlds most sophisticated”.
The tour is expected to go from Haugesund, via Stavanger and then into the North Sea before ending its journey in Molde.
