A trial combining 10 lawsuits arising from a deadly explosion and fire on an offshore platform four year ago has ended with a settlement.
The accident off the coast of Louisiana killed three workers while injuring several others on a platform owned by Black Elk Energy.
The settlement brings to an end a trial which began a week earlier and had been expected to last a few weeks.
The trial jury was informed of a settlement earlier this week and dismissed.
The terms of the settlement weren’t disclosed.
Black Elk Energy’s platform was located about 17 miles from Grand Isle, Louisiana, in 52feet of water.
It had been “shut in” and wasn’t producing oil at the time of the explosion.
