The Government has adopted climate targets which will require cuts to greenhouse gas emissions of 57% by 2030.
Ministers have laid regulations in Parliament for the “fifth carbon budget”, which governs reductions in emissions for the period 2028 to 2032, accepting the advice for the ambitious cuts
outlined by their climate advisers.
The move comes amid concerns that Brexit could undermine the UK’s position as a leader on climate action, fears which Energy Secretary Amber Rudd moved to quell by insisting the Government remains committed to tackling the problem.
