BP and Shell have started securing facilities and evacuating non-essential personnel from drilling rigs and platforms in the US Gulf of Mexico.
The move comes amid the threat of storm weather in the region.
Other producers in the area have said they will continue to monitor the weather the situation but had not evacuated anyone yet.
According to reports, the National Hurricane Centre said a disturbance near Cuba has a 20 percent chance of developing into a cyclone in the next 48 hours.
