Ellon-based offshore chemical engineer Aubin Group has teamed up with Aberdeen University to finish developing its new subsea lifting system.
Using buoyancy fluid made by Aubin, the company’s placement and lifting subsea (PALS) system allows structures to be moved with precision at depths of up to 9,800ft.
The technology makes it possible for divers to lift heavy objects using just one hand while underwater, as the footage shows.
Aubin said the method was safer, quicker and more accurate than traditional placement and lifting techniques involving the use of crane vessels, whose operators are hindered by poor weather conditions, and air bags.
