The North Sea arm of French firm Total could become the new occupier of the west campus building in Westhill, Aberdeenshire.
Total E&P UK said yesterday that it had inked a “conditional contract” with Subsea 7 to lease the premises.
It is understood that Subsea 7 does not own the west campus building, but had been leasing it.
Total aims to move its workforce into west campus next summer, but would first have to upgrade the building to meet its requirements.
A spokesperson for Total said: “Total E&P UK has signed a conditional contract with Subsea 7 making an offer to lease the west campus building in the Silvertrees Business Park in Westhill.
“The proposed move would happen in the summer of 2017 following a refit in order to accommodate Total’s workforce.”
Total currently has a base on Crawpeel Road, Altens.
A spokeswoman for Subsea 7 declined to comment.
The Oslo-listed firm had been looking for lease opportunities for the site for more than a year.
In October 2015, Subsea 7 said it would be downsizing its Aberdeenshire office to help cut costs amid the oil price downturn.
Two months ago, a Subsea 7 spokeswoman said most staff had been switched from its west campus to its east campus, also in Westhill, and to its site on Greenwell Road, Tullos.
