Amec Foster Wheeler has won a contract from Enefit Energy in Estonia for the delivery of a boiler technology upgrade project.
This will increase oil shale retort gas combustion in an existing circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) boiler that was supplied by Amec Foster Wheeler in 2004.
Currently, retort gas is burned in small amounts in the boilers of Enefit´s power plants.
Amec Foster Wheeler said once the project is complete, Enefit will be able to burn almost the entire volume of gas generated in the modified boiler plant which should result in higher efficiency and improve environmental conditions.
Tomas Harju-Jeanty, president, Amec Foster Wheeler Energia Group, Global Power Group said:“Amec Foster Wheeler is proud to continue as a core technology supplier as a part of Enefit’s world-class team for advanced utilisation of oil shale in energy production.
“Our long history of working with Enefit combined with our vast experience in delivering CFB solutions for hard to fire fuels, provides a solid basis for the project.”
