Two charcoal power stations will be built on the Ivory Coast by 2021 in a bid to address growing national demand for electricity.
The move comes after the country emerged from a decade-long political crisis.
However, rapid growth has strained power supplies.
One plant is scheduled for completion in 2020 while the other is expected to be completed in 2021.
Electricity demand is currently increasing in the region by about 10% per year.
The Ivorian government has been pushing for investments to double output to 4,000 by 2020.
China Energy Corporation is leading construction of the $520million Songon power station, whose two gas and one steam turbine will produce 372MW of power.
