A Norwegian trade union has accused a rig owner of perpetrating “social dumping” on an offshore vessel.
Industri Energi said foreign workers employed on Ocean Rig’s Leiv Eiriksson semi-submersible were being badly underpaid.
“We look very seriously at this and will pursue the matter,” union secretary Harald Hereid said.
“Social dumping is unacceptable and in breach of Norwegian law, because it undermines people’s wages and working conditions, while serious companies are wiped out.”
The rig is currently employed on a Lundin Petroleum drilling campaign on the Norwegian Shelf.
The union said it had asked Ocean Rig to allow an inspector to come aboard, but had not yet received a response.
Energy Voice has contacted Ocean Rig for comment.
