Frontline health service provider Iqarus has made its first international acquisition after buying a medical centre in Afghanistan.
The Aberdeen-based firm provides medical services in complex and demanding environments around the world.
It acquired the Kabul based the American Medical Centre (AMC) from Florida registered firm Jataro LLC.
The centre provides healthcare services to expatriates, international companies, multilateral organisations, government agencies, non-profit organisations, as well as the local Afghan community.
The clinic offers full General Practitioner services, occupational health support, radiology, dental care, laboratory testing, training and urgent care provision.
The AMC has an Afghanistan Ministry of Public Health license and is the only medical centre in Afghanistan with American Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approval.
Iqarus already supports the UN, diplomatic and NGO communities within Afghanistan through its UN Medical Emergency Response Team spread across nine Afghan hubs.
As part of the deal for the AMC, Iqarus will also acquire a second clinic currently being built in Kabul International Airport.
The clinic will be the only non-military medical facility within the airport perimeter, providing services to the community onsite
Tim Mitchell, chief executive of Iqarus, said: “We are delighted to complete the acquisition of this highly-regarded healthcare facility.
“Our expertise lies in delivering world-leading medical care in challenging and complex environments. This state-of-the-art clinic in Kabul is a natural fit for our business.
“Given our existing experience in Afghanistan with the UN, we are confident that we can build and improve on the current delivery of healthcare services in the region.
““We are looking forward to immersing ourselves within the local community and supporting our Afghan and expat partners by providing an innovative healthcare solution which meets the needs of a very diverse customerbase.”
