Norwegian prosecutors have dropped a corruption case involving an employee of Statoil and one of the firm’s suppliers, a news report said.
Tor Inge Borgersen, who was representing the Statoil employee, told Aftenblad news agency that police had recommended dropping the charges.
Statoil said in December that it had temporarily suspended the employee, who was being investigated by Norwegian police on suspicion of “serious corruption”.
Police decided to take up the case after Statoil passed information about the employee to law enforcement.
Police were also investigating an employee of Norsk Helikopterservice, also on suspicion of corruption.
Statoil said the circumstances had convinced it to cancel a letter of intent with Norsk Helikopterservice for a backup search and rescue (SAR) helicopter.
A lawyer for Norsk Helikopterservice said last month that the company was considering suing Statoil for breaking the agreement.
