Engineering consultancy ABB has clinched a £230million deal to supply technology that will help connect the French and UK electricity networks.
Zurich-headquartered ABB, which has a base in Aberdeen, was handed the deal by National Grid and Réseau de Transport d’Electricité.
The 1,000MW link will run from Chilling on the southern coast of England to Tourbe in northern France, covering a distance of 150miles.
ABB will provide a converter station in France and another in England which will be linked with a subsea cable.
Claudio Facchin, head of ABB’s power grids division, said: “This order further strengthens our leading HVDC position and provides momentum to our transformational drive for profitable growth, as a partner of choice for enabling a stronger, smarter and greener grid.”
