Oil and gas marine services company OEM Group has announced former Aberdeen Football Club goalkeeper Jim George as its latest signing.
Mr George, who joined the Dons as a 15-year-old in the 1970s, has been appointed as the Aberdeen-based firm’s global business development manager.
As well as a football career that included spells with Banff side Deveronvale and Elgin City in the Highland League, he has amassed more than four decades’ experience in the oil and gas industry.
OEM Group said that, working from its city headquarters, Mr George will focus on all commercial matters as well as building and strengthening client relationships across all regions.
The company’s managing director Barry Park said: “Jim has a strong track record and a commendably deep knowledge of the oil and gas industry.
“I’m confident that given his previous successes across different types of businesses that his appointment will play a key role in developing strategic relationships in the UK and oversees in line with our business objectives and overall growth strategy.”
Mr George said it was a “truly exciting” time to be joining the group.
Another appointment announced at the weekend has seen Alan McCrae unveiled as professional services firm PwC’s new energy (oil and gas) leader in the UK.
With a career spanning over 28 years, Mr McCrae was previously energy tax leader across the company’s UK, European, Middle East and Africa territories.
He said: “Our 15-year lease of the newly transformed £30m modern Capitol building, with its cutting-edge communications, office facilities and security, has undoubtedly reaffirmed our commitment to Aberdeen.
“And despite the lower for longer environment in recent years, we’ve been fortunate to be able to recruit and retain the best people across our UK team, a trend we’re looking to continue over the next 12-18 months in line with our plans to significantly grow the team.”
Last week the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) announced it had appointed Mark Bevan as its new chief executive.
Mr Bevan, who currently works for the Prince of Wales’ Responsible Business network, will join the organisation on May 22. He replaces Ross Martin, who stood down earlier this year.
