Cemre Shipyard in Turkey has held a launching ceremony for a service operation vessel ordered by Esvagt and chartered by MHI Vestas Offshore Wind.
The SOV will be used by MHI Vestas to service Nobelwind and Belwind offshore wind farms in Belgium.
The new vessel is 191 feet in length, with a beam of 54 feet and can support up to 22 technicians, all in single cabins.
The vessel is prepared with dynamic positioning technology, and two safe transfer boats to transfer technicians, tools and spare parts to the turbines.
Speaking when the ship was commissioned, MHI Vestas Senior Director Asger Pedersen said: “Over the last five years we have been extremely satisfied with the performance of the vessel supplied by Esvagt and it was a natural choice to continue our partnership.
“The new purpose built vessel has been designed to provide flexibility for the teams who will be providing operational support for different technology types. We are looking forward to seeing the new vessel in service from 2017.”
