Shell’s Prelude FLNG project has hit a milestone, after leaving the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje, South Korea.
The facility will make a 5,800 kilometre journey to Australia where it will extract and liquefy natural gas.
It is expected to produce 3.6million tonnes of LNG per year from the Prelude and Concerto gas fields, in the Browse Basin, off the north-west coast of Australia.
The floating facility will chill natural gas produced at the field to –162°C, shrinking its volume by 600 times so it can be shipped to customers in other parts of the world.
