Norwegian oil giant Statoil has released footage of its new Cat J jack-up drilling rig at the Samsung Yard in South Korea, before it sets off for Norway.
The rig, which is called ‘Askeladden’ will be used in the Gullfaks field.
The company’s second jack-up rig is currently being built at the same shipyard.
Statoil awarded contracts for the two rigs to Schlumberger and Baker Hughes in January this year.
The pair will carry out the integrated drilling and well services on the Cat J rigs Askepott and Askeladden, which will be dispatched to work on the Oseberg and the Gullfaks fields.
The Cat J jack-up rigs are tailored to the conditions in the North Sea, where they are scheduled to be installed in the summer and autumn of 2017, respectively.
