Dutch firm OOS International has started the construction of the first of two semi-submersible crane vessels in China.
The first steel was cut at the shipyard in Haimen City yesterday.
The OOS Serooskerke will have capacity for 750 people on board for preparation work.
It will have two heavy lift Huisman cranes with a total tandem lift capacity of 4,400 feet with a speed up to 12 knots.
Speaking at the cutting of the first steel, OOS International chief executive Leon Overdulve said: “This event signifies a major milestone for the project moving forward with the construction phase to meet the delivery expected in 2019. Finalizing the engineering phase without any variation order shows true synergy between shipyard and client.
“We are grateful having such a passionate team with professionals working together with China Merchants Industry Holdings, recognized for its sophisticated production facilities, knowledge and expertise. We look forward to continuing our successful partnership.”
Work is expected to begin on the second vessel OOS Walcheren in the next few months.
