Police are investigating after a drilling rig was vandalised at a facility near Chesterfield, a news report said.
The incident took place in May at a base run by PR Marriott, which stores and maintains rigs for shale gas firm Cuadrilla.
Sledgehammers were used to smash the rig’s touchscreen computers and window, components were drilled out and pneumatic pipes and cables were cut, The Guardian reported, citing a source with knowledge of the matter.
The report said the Drillmec HH220 rig would have been used to drill at a site in Lancashire, but Cuadrilla would not confirm.
There have been no arrests so far.
