The Scottish Government has expressed its disappointment at the lack of UK wide collaboration toward the Clean Growth Strategy and that they were ‘given only one day’s notice to respond’ toward the report.
Climate change secretary Roseanna Cunningham said in a statement today that while she was glad that the UK Government has taken action on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and taken ‘bold new commitments’ on low carbon transport, there has been ‘disappointment’ within the Scottish Government toward the lack of consultation.
Cunningham also expressed dismay at the shortage of time Holyrood was given to respond to the Clean Energy Strategy before it was released to the public.
Cunningham said: “Action on climate change is crucial to the Scottish Government’s ambitions of creating a cleaner and greener country, with Scotland continuing to lead the UK in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“We are currently finalising our own draft Climate Change Plan and Energy Strategy which will include the bold new commitments in low-carbon transport, infrastructure and energy efficiency which were set out in our Programme for Government.
“While Scotland is keen to collaborate with the UK on climate action, it is disappointing that we were unable to provide input to the strategy as we were given only one day’s notice to respond.
“We recognise the strategy is an important document and we will now be considering it in detail to understand how it impacts on the people of Scotland, our economy and our decarbonisation ambitions.”
