Councillor for Dyce, Bucksburn and Danestone, Barney Crockett will seek approval from the Lord Provost to take on the role of vice president of the World Energy Cities Partnership.
A report has been brought forward to the Communities, Housing and Infrastructure (CH&I) Committee to approve the two year role beginning in 2018.
The World Energy Cities Partnership has already approved recommendations in Halifax, Nova Scotia to put Cllr Crockett in the Vice President position.
During the (CH&I) meeting at which the proposal was announced, it was also noted that ‘several partner member cities had approached Aberdeen City Council to suggest the Lord Provost consider the opportunity’.
“It’s a huge honour, but also a lot of responsibility – lot of responsibility for the city but also the wider world of energy. The organisation plays a critical role and involves the major powers in oil and gas but increasingly other things as well.
“It gives Aberdeen a place at the very, very top table and is a huge opportunity for the city.”
