Ellon-based engineering firm Power Jacks is relocating to purpose-built facilities elsewhere in Aberdeenshire after one of its best years ever.
The company struck a deal to sell its existing site to neighbour BrewDog, which plans to convert the manufacturing facility into a brewhouse, canning plant and craft beer hotel.
Power Jacks then signed up Knight Property Group to build a new headquarters and manufacturing facility at Kingshill Commercial Park in Westhill.
Founded in 1988, Power Jacks specialises in industrial lifting and positioning equipment. Its 30th year coincides with figures showing its most successful 12 months in terms of orders, with the company booking forward sales worth more than £15million. Turnover to March 2018 is expected to be up by around 40% to £11million.
Chairman Bruce Bultitude said: “We have done business in 45 countries this year and are definitely experiencing more activity compared to a few years ago, with some significant projects in the pipeline to deliver solutions for diverse uses in a wide range of industries.”
The Aberdeen city bypass played a big part in the decision to move, Mr Bultitude said, adding the new road allowed the firm to “look at areas we wouldn’t have otherwise considered, with parts of Aberdeenshire set to become far more accessible in terms of commuting times.”
Power Jacks, which employs 50 people in Ellon, aims to move by August.
