Engineering services giant Babcock International (Babcock) has chosen a former RAF pilot to head up its UK North Sea helicopter business in Aberdeen.
Simon Meakins, previously director of flight operations for Babcock UK Offshore, is now the overall director in charge.
He takes over the role from Rob Dyas, who has moved to a new position with Babcock in Canada.
Babcock UK Offshore provides crew change and search and rescue (S&R) services to the oil and gas industry.
It operates a fleet of more than 20 S-92 and H175 aircraft on behalf of several North Sea operators, plus two specialist S&R helicopters.
Mr Meakins, who trained as a helicopter pilot during his time with the RAF, has been with the business since 2011.
He said: “North Sea helicopter operations are an incredibly dynamic business that now more than ever demand total commitment to the highest standards in safety and customer service.
“I see a truly positive direction for this business and for the wider industry.
“This is reflected in the number of exciting new opportunities we are currently pursuing with customers old and new.”
Babcock UK Offshore recently secured a third hangar, between its two existing facilities, on the east side of Aberdeen International Airport.
Mr Meakins said: “This has further improved our capabilities in Aberdeen.”
