North and north-east businesses have ranked among the top 100 private companies in the UK.
The annual Top Track 100 league table features Britain’s firms with the biggest sales.
This year 10 companies are headquartered in Scotland, compared to six last year.
Together they achieved sales of £12.1 billion and profits of £1.3bn in their latest financial year, and employ more than 46,100 people.
The top-ranked company in Scotland is Arnold Clark, which now operates 200 dealerships and 150 service centres across the UK. It sells more than 300,000 cars a year and sales reached a record £4.2bn in 2018.
The list includes four new entrants, including Menzies Distribution, which delivers more than 7m newspapers and magazines to newsagents and retailers each morning.
It was a division of John Menzies until last year when it was sold to Endless Private
Equity for £74.5 million. Sales were £1bn in 2017.
Three other newcomers are Elgin founded construction firm Robertson and Miller Homes, and facilities maintenance provider City Facilities Management, which grew is sales by a third to reach £822m in 2017, boosted by growth in Australia and southeast Asia.
Aberdeen headquartered KCA Deutag, John Clark Motor Group, Keith based William Grant and Sons and MacCallan producers Edrington also made the list.
The companies in Scotland appear in the Sunday Times list alongside other well-known British names, including bet365, Clarks, Iceland, JCB, John Lewis Partnership, Nando’s and Specsavers.
This year’s Top Track 100 achieved combined sales growth of 14% to a total of £220bn.
