A drone has been used to deliver a package to the world’s largest construction vessel in the Netherlands.
The Port of Rotterdam and Allseas have released footage of the operation, a first for the country, at the Pioneering Spirit vessel.
The pair said the pilot project would be used to test how drones can improve transport efficiencies in the future.
Allseas said drones could be a “perfect solution” for when helicopters are not available and certain parts need replacing, such as a network switch in this case.
The Port of Rotterdam said the technology could even be used to transport people “before long”.
Airspace over the port area will be safely managed under the slogan “Rotterdam, the safest port to fly”, allowing organisations to use new technologies to make the port “safer, smarter and more efficient”.
